A Simplified Methodology for Condition Assessment of Bridge Bearings Using Vibration Based Structural Health Monitoring Techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
The mechanical properties of bridge bearings gradually deteriorate over time resulting from daily traffic loading and harsh environmental conditions. However, structural health monitoring in-service is rather challenging. This study presents a bearing condition assessment framework which integrates the vibration data non-contact interferometric radar (i.e. IBIS-S) simplified analytical model. Using two existing concrete bridges in Australia as case study, it demonstrates that developed has capability detecting real-time. In addition, results series parametric studies show effectiveness largely determined by stiffness ratio between girder ([Formula: see text], i.e. can only be effectively captured when value [Formula: text] ranges 1/100 100.

Bridge Structural Condition Assessment Based on Vibration and Traffic Monitoring
A stochastic model of traffic excitation on bridges is developed assuming that the arrival of vehicles traversing a bridge modeled as an elastic beam follows a Poisson process, and that the contact force of a vehicle on the bridge deck can be converted to equivalent dynamic loads at the nodes of the beam elements. The parameters in this model, such as the Poisson arrival rate and the stochastic...
متن کاملLeveraging Structural Health Monitoring for Bridge Condition Assessment
Highway bridge infrastructure is a key aspect of the US transportation system. Efficient maintenance is important for preserving the integrity and improving the condition of aging national bridge infrastructure. Highway bridge condition is typically assessed using visual inspections and accompanying non-destructive field tests. This paper presents a solution that leverages low-cost Structural H...

The development of structural health monitoring (SHM) technology has evolved for over fifteen years in Hong Kong since the implementation of the “Wind And Structural Health Monitoring System (WASHMS)” on the suspension Tsing Ma Bridge in 1997. Five cable-supported bridges in Hong Kong, namely the Tsing Ma (suspension) Bridge, the Kap Shui Mun (cable-stayed) Bridge, the Ting Kau (cable-stayed) B...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Wireless Bridge Monitoring System for Condition Assessment Using Hybrid Techniques
The introduction and development of wireless sensor network technology has resulted in rapid growth within the field of structural health monitoring (SHM), as the dramatic cable costs associated with instrumentation of large civil structures is potentially alleviated. Traditionally, condition assessment of bridge structures is accomplished through the use of either vibration measurements or str...

This paper presents long-term condition assessment approaches of cables and bridge decks under in-service loads based on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technique. Aiming to the critical structural components, three important issues related to the long term performance evaluation, including loads and responses modelling, resistance degradation and fatigue life assessment, were investigated i...
